Love life

From the lecture of week 7, I learn more deeply about interpersonal communication. Especially about, there are 2 meanings for interpersonal communication, the first one is, it is the process of using message to generate meaning within at least 2 people in a situation that allows mutual opportunities for both speaking and listening and the other one is, communication that occurs within interpersonal relationship. There are 2 different things called interpersonal and impersonal relationship. Sometimes people have chance to get confuse between interpersonal and impersonal relationship.
But through this lecture I have learned the difference between this 2 things, which, interpersonal relationship means, association between 2 people who are interdependent, who use some consistent patterns of interaction and who have interacted for extended period of time. Impersonal relationship means make guesses about the conversation based on sociological or cultural information. I have learned about why the interpersonal relationship is important and the negative effects of it.
When I study about this interpersonal relationship, I remembered to my relationship with people and I get to understand more about what is my real relationship with people around me.

Hey you!

Without we realizing it, we often use nonverbal communication to generate meaning among our peers family and society right? No?
Only after in Miss Allison class I now realized that all the nonverbal body movements I did in my daily life has a name for each of them.
Emblems. Anybody know what this is? In my general understanding emblems is like a symbol of a brand or a trademark or a logo. Its like you don’t have to say it for you to know it because you have already know what it is. For example, the brand Apple is so famous that people already know their brand logo is an eaten Apple, only a part of them is eaten. In the everyday live, I often use thumbs up symbol or thumbs down to ask people whether they are alright or not, and they will reply the same and I will know they are fine or not. Haha!
Illustrators are what we call it when you are trying to say something but you also sprinkle some verbal communication to it to make it more understandable. Its when you say you are hungry to your girlfriend and you hold on to you tummy as you say it. That is what we call as illustrator.
Adaptors on the other hand is the thing you  are not supposed to do at public because its not nice to be seen but you do it still because you are nervous over something. Well for me, when Im nervous I tend to be clumsy and all, like I will hit something and the thing drop.

Active Listening

From the lecture of week 6, I have learned a lot of things. Most of us will only give important to speaking and never know the important of listening. So that, the process of speaking becomes more than the process of listening. But, through this chapter I learned that listening is one of the important things in communication. It is important to listen as well as speaking as a communication tool. Listening is the active process of receiving, constructing meaning from, and I also get to understand the differences between hearing and listening.
Listening is actually occurring by following certain process such as stimulus, attention, working memory, short term memory, and long term memory. I learned that listening is the main source for all other communication tool such as speaking. We actually listen more than reading, speaking, and writing in our daily which we don’t realize. There are several types of listening, such as active listening, emphatic listening, critical listening and listening for enjoyment.
Other than that, I also get to know about the causes that can distract the listening. The causes are like noise, perception of others, and yourself. Even gender difference also can cause different of listening in people. There are also several ways to improve our listening process.

Non verbal Comm

From the lecture of week 5, I get the understanding of the usage of nonverbal communication in our daily life. In our life, we always have use nonverbal communication, but, we might not realize it. This is because we don’t have the knowledge of the meaning of what is nonverbal communication. For example, when we say no by shaking our head from left to right is also a type of nonverbal communication. Other than that, we also sometimes don’t even know how and when to use the nonverbal communication. From this chapter, I get to know the meaning of certain nonverbal communication and when and how to use it.
I get to know the important of nonverbal communication, there are many types of nonverbal communication and named such as, bodily movement and facial expression which are like emblems, illustrators, affect displays, regulators, and adaptors. Secondly, physical attraction, space, time, touching, vocal cues, clothing and other artifacts. This shows that even a silent of a person can tell many things to people. A picture can tell thousands of words to people. We must have to use nonverbal communication in certain situation and must practice using nonverbal communication at most of the time. I understand that there are certain ways to improve our use of nonverbal communication.

Not listening

ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME? NOT!
I am the kind of person who is always hearing to what people say but never to listen. Well, I did that most of the time. Pardon my ignorance. Hehe.
I’m the kind of person who as the Malay saying says it “ Masuk telinga kanan, keluar telinga kiri”  and this act often take place when someone nags and nag at me. I just don’t like to listen to nags, well who does like listen to them innit?
Listening  is when we receive the message and starts to construct the meaning to give responses. But what I usually do is hearing, which is as what the aforementioned Malay saying. But, every so often I regret by doing so. Most the nags I had was for my own good. I’m so ignorant by not listening to them.

Are you pretty?

Beauty (also called prettiness, loveliness or comeliness) is a characteristic of a person, animal, place, object,or idea that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure, meaning or satisfaction. Beauty is studied as part of aesthetics sociology, social psychology, and culture. An "ideal beauty" is an entity which is admired, or possesses features widely attributed to beauty in a particular culture, for perfection.

Above is the definition of by Wikipedia. But is it really deemed as beauty? What is beautiful to many?
There are 6,928,198,293 People in the world. 3,361,154,752 of people in this world are women. 3,260,320,109 have brutal thoughts about their body everyday. 2,251,973,684 run away from life and social engaging activities such as, going out and about and etc because they feel bad about their looks and thinks they are ugly. 1,815,023,566 of them would rather get hit by a truck and die rather than be FAT. 70,000,000 people in this world suffers from eating disorders whether is bulimia nervosa or anorexia nervosa. 66,500,000 of those who suffers from eating disorder are between the age 12 to 25 years old. 35,000,000 who suffers from eating disorders met the criteria for depression.

All that above just for a sake of being deemed as beautiful for a minute? Does all that really worth it?
When I was younger I was never a happy kid, being rebellious myself and I am always alone. When I am alone I spent most of my time watching people. And I like to check on cute girls as well, the cute girls are always the popular Kid in school, despite the slightly less beautiful girl is their friend, people don't seem to pay much attention to them as they did to the cute girls. Even if the less attractive girls is better at heart compared to their rivals. What does all this tell me? It tells me a story that human being are superficial and shallow, they only see and admire from the outside without knowing the filling inside. All human being are beautiful and are the same as God created them.

The importance of English

Being fluent in certain language is vital in everyday world. Especially English, in this fast paced Internet world. Everything is in English, about English and require proficiency in this particular language. You would be completely out of this world even if you don’t know a simple English. Thus, mirroring the importance of this language.
When I was younger, I was really an underdog when it comes to speaking English, I felt inferior for not being able to speak in English. Realizing this, I took  an initiative to learn English by my own by reading a lot of English newspapers and magazines in order to get new words and idioms, this made easy with my completely English educated father as he was from a British School from the Colonial Era of British in our country. Another way to be better is when you see a phrase with the word you don’t understand; I always guessed what it means before checking the meaning in the pocket dictionary I had back then. By doing this, I really find my English has improved significantly immense. I can now use those outstanding words in my essay and got praised by my English teacher. That made me happy.
I also learned English when I was watching the Television. I even picked up an accent while doing so! I never knew I did until everyone told me I have an accent while I converse in English. I reckoned that happen because I followed what the actors and actress said at heart and I mumbled it out alone after the movie finished alone somewhere.
English is really important and I just can’t stop stressing how important it is. It is important not only on paper but also in society. It is sad to see Malaysians who scored A+ grades for their English but they don’t pass the speaking test because they only learn the theory and not using it in their everyday life.
I wish for a change in our people.
